Back in January Harris Dickinson pulled up to Prada’s Autumn/Winter 2025 runway show wearing an awesome, buttery leather Prada car coat. The energy: Don Draper meets The Matrix at Milan Fashion Week. And it’s been living rent free in the Instagram saves ever since.
And with the end of summer on the cards and jacket season coming in hot, we’ve been revisiting the look for some inspiration as we enter those tricky transitional days. You don’t need us to tell you that anything leather is an instant win. You straight away look like you know what you’re doing. It amplifies anything formal, and can really dial-up chill looks with its luxurious textures and structured construction. Plus, it’s durable and gets better as it picks up that lived-in patina. So yeah, we’re into car coats.
But unless you’re one of the lucky ones, bagging the same Prada car coat that Dickinson wore (or the cropped brown version that fellow Prada boy Troye Sivan wore to the show), then you might have to look for alternatives.
But look no more – Marks and Spencer has answered that call with its Autumn/Winter 2025 Autograph collection, which draws on the style cues of high-end runway shows for inspiration. This resulted in some ultra-fine menswear bangers, including a leather chore coat. Okay, so this one doesn’t go down to your thigh, but it still crops below the waist and has that all-important floppy collar. It’s ideal for those in between meteorological moments, too. On milder days you can pair it with merino knits and cotton tees, or for crisper days, a hoodie makes for an assured high-low pairing, too.
Beyond leather coats, the collection also features British wool double-breasted suits, corduroy trousers, Chelsea boots, loafers, and leather and suede holdalls. Everything comes in muted colours like black, cream, and beige, allowing the wearer to build outfits around each piece without too much hassle. Plus with all prices under £300, you’re getting a lot of bang for your buck.
If you’re looking to channel your inner Harris Dickinson this winter, Autograph could be the way to go. Even if leather car coats aren’t your thing, expensive-looking menswear that doesn’t break is always a good idea.
